Check Your Free Credit Report Annually!

If you want to request a free credit report once every 12 months from each of the nationwide consumer credit reporting companies---Equifax, Experian and TransUnion---go to www.annualcreditreport.com . This is the only site that will give you a no-strings attached free credit report.

I highly recommend that you do this on your own secure computer AT HOME. But if you don't want to order your credit report online, you can request it by phone and by postal mail using a form they provide.

Why would you want to check your credit report annually? You want to be on the look-out for credit fraud---someone charging credit or opening accounts in your name without your knowledge. This has happened to me at least once---through someone opening a mail order catalogue account using my name/subscription form sent to them in a catalogue at one of my previous addresses. So it definitely can easily happen to you too.

Send for just one of the free reports each quarter. That way you can spread your freebie reports throughout the year and get a year-round view of changes to your credit.
