Special training or attributes needed or helpful to get job in this industry (or specific department):  I went to a community college for two years for legal secretary, worked several years for a law office, but switched from working in a law office to a hospital.

 

Number of managers and/or staff supported:  2 managers

 

Typical work hours:  40 hrs. per week – generally 8:00-4:30, but changes due to programs we provide

 

Weekends or overtime hours:  We cannot have any overtime. I do rarely work on a Saturday if we have a program but make another day shorter during the pay period so my time is still 40 hrs. I work evenings about twice a month.

 

General salary range (Note: This is a general figure or range provided by survey respondent and may NOT be an exact salary in order to give survey respondent some privacy. Also you must take into account that the number of years worked in industry/department may contribute to this salary as well as criteria such as level of position and person reports to, required hours and geographical location.):  approx. $28,000

 

Benefits (direct or indirect):  We do have good benefits, medical, dental, vision, educational reimbursement, discounts at other businesses around town, PTO (paid time off) which you earn so many hours per pay period (every two weeks) dependent upon how long you have been employed), etc. I have flexible hours, which I consider a benefit.

Job Shadowing – a process to allow persons to participate in planned observation experience on clinical units for experience

 

Registrar – a program used to register participants into classes and keep track of continuing education of employees.

 

A typical day on the job:  Answer phone calls, register people for classes and programs, set up for classes, send room slip reservations, do mailings and update mailing lists, order office supplies and class materials, system administrator for registrar program, send reminder letters, keep track of and make deposits for programs, etc.

 

Positive things about being an administrative professional in this industry:  Treated like family within the organization, flexibility, fun and interesting job as many of the programs change frequently so job does not become boring.

 

Negative things about being an administrative professional in this industry:  Juggling so many things at one time for two different people, mailings can be tedious, volume of phone calls on some days

Primary responsibilities as an administrative professional in this position:  Answer phone calls, taking registrations, handling set up and registration of classes and programs, letters and mailings, system administrator of registrar, helping people with registrar
