eHIM/EHR – electronic health information management/electronic health records (new term for medical records as they move to electronic formats

RHIO – Regional Health Information Organization (local, unrelated health facilites form a “partnership” to become “seamlessly interlocked.” Example: 3 unrelated, non-affiliated hospitals in a city/state/region agree to share patient info between each facility. This helps the patient because no matter where they are in the region all of their medical history is available – no need to wait for records to arrive. The docs have instant access to medicines prescribed, prior surgeries, etc. These facilities would also share medical costs – a large MRI setup at facility X would be shared amongst the RHIO reducing cost for all facilities.

 

A typical day on the job:  Hectic. Phones, voicemail, meetings, logistical setups
